Students at RP6TH take part in a wide variety of clubs, House activities, annual celebrations and social events. Some of these activities are led by staff; others are run by the students themselves. Students are welcome to join in existing clubs or start new ones if they have a particular passion or interest. Taking part in extra-curricular clubs and activities is not only extremely enjoyable it gives students the chance to make new friends in different year groups and benefit from a more rounded curriculum.
Developing leadership skills and working as part of a team are key skills for university and running events, working together with others, learning new skills and developing existing competencies is vital both in and outside the classroom.
Our ChangeMakers programme is a social action project that all students in Year 12 take part in. Students are tasked with leading on a project that is a passion of their own to make a difference in our local community. Our most recent events have included the Toy Box Project donation scheme to support a local charity with donations for local families to take advantage of, a Mental Health Cycle awareness to raise fuds for the Charity Mind and the Sanitary Deprivation Project to collect a variety of sanitary products to support a community charity tackling period poverty.
Student leadership is something we pride ourselves on at RP6TH. The variety of roles we offer students is vast and includes:
KS5 Subject Champions – where students support a department with club support, including with performing arts productions and coaching in physical education and younger sports teams
Mentoring younger students, including Y7 transition support and supporting year 9 with their options
Paired reading, Lexia support, Mathematical skills support
House activity leaders and sports club support
Green Team leaders
Senior Student Leadership Team (SSLT) roles, including being coached by the Head Teacher and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
Our Senior Student Leadership Team members are recruited based on their excellence inside and outside the classroom and their desire to make a difference. The core aim of our student leadership team is to ensure the effective representation of the student body.
The team together support at Academy events, collecting the student voice and help drive improvements in their areas of responsibility. School tours and supporting visitors to the Academy are also key roles and responsibilities of our student leaders.
Our students are invited to use the SRPA sports facilities and our PE staff support them with the sports activities they choose in enrichment time. This could be dodgeball, benchball, kinball, table tennis, football and any other reasonable request, including using our brand new gym facilities.
There are also a number of social events at RP6TH. These include our Celebration Breakfasts, Stress Buster events to the local bowling alley, visits to The Showroom for team building, beach visits to support student wellbeing and celebration meals in year 12 and 13.
